ABOUT

Mutual aid among ordinary people,
deserves to be taken seriously.

I am Zhang Mading, founder of KangAi Commune. For fifteen years I have been doing one thing: using the internet to connect simple human goodwill, and making that goodwill run sustainably through open, transparent, rule-respecting mechanisms.

My thinking

Online mutual aid is neither a substitute for insurance nor a simple charity initiative. It is a distinctive mechanism of social collaboration.

Here, everyone is both a helper and a potential recipient; the platform must protect goodwill while also upholding the rules. The truly difficult part is not designing a moving slogan, but maintaining fairness, transparency and sustainability in one concrete choice after another.

This website records the thinking behind those choices. It does not avoid controversy, nor does it deliberately romanticize the entrepreneurial process. I hope to keep, faithfully, the experience, lessons and still-unresolved questions gained from long-term practice.

01Transparency. Openness is not an add-on, but the basis of trust.
02Rules. Mutual aid needs warmth, but cannot rely on ad hoc favors.
03Long-term. A mechanism's value cannot be judged by momentary excitement or scale.
