Refunding Past Mutual Aid Contributions Would Expose the Platform to Enormous Unsustainability Risks
Some members suggest that when a member's mutual aid application cannot be approved, the Commune could refund their contributions in order to avoid being criticized.
If this were really done, it might greatly improve the Commune's image and reduce some negative comments, but it would expose the platform to enormous unsustainability risks.
1. The risk of encouraging speculation. If this were done, it would not matter whether one met the membership conditions; people would join in large numbers, apply when something happened, and if approved receive a sum of money—and if not approved, still get back their past contributions. The platform would become a paradise for speculators.
2. The risk that the platform could no longer operate. The Commune's mutual aid funds have already been paid out to recipients, and no reserve fund was charged separately, so there is no money to refund. For example, the Commune has already distributed 300 million yuan of mutual aid funds to help recipients. If this door were opened, even if only one-tenth of members demanded refunds, it would create unbearable pressure.
KangAi Commune already handles matters humanely and has provided for five situations in which refunds are allowed. Outside these five situations, no refund is absolutely permitted.
The Commune must never take on the obligation to unconditionally refund funds already used for mutual aid—even if it means being criticized. We ask members to understand.
