Why Must KangAi Commune Strictly Verify Health Requirements for Membership When Processing Mutual Aid?

Zhang Mading2 min read

KangAi Commune is not state social insurance; it cannot force people to participate and can only attract voluntary participation. One of the preconditions for attracting people is fairness. Young people will not participate in mutual aid for the elderly over the long term, and healthy people are unwilling to share mutual aid with unhealthy people over the long term. Everyone understands this principle.

On the other hand, KangAi Commune pioneered the zero-prepayment protection model, which lowers the barrier to participation infinitely—but it also greatly lowers the barrier to speculation and fraud. If I am in poor health, I would rather join the mutual aid of healthy people. This is called adverse selection and is in fact a speculative mindset. When many people do this, all participating members are overwhelmed and the Commune becomes unsustainable. Therefore, KangAi Commune must firmly prevent this.

But KangAi Commune cannot conduct pre-checks. Checking every person would cost too much, and I believe no one would be willing to do it. So we can only rely on members reading the health disclosure and choosing for themselves; as a platform, we can only rely on post-event investigation.

In fact, KangAi Commune already has many humane arrangements. For members who have been in the Commune for more than five years, if they did not meet the membership conditions at the time, the Commune will not refuse them entirely.

See the announcement: Rights Measures for People with Pre-existing Illnesses or Illnesses Arising During the Waiting Period After the Five-Year Waiting Period Has Ended.

At the same time, the Commune has set up many personalized mutual aid societies. People who have been ill, people with chronic diseases, and even cancer patients all have corresponding mutual aid options. As long as members choose correctly according to their own circumstances, mutual aid can be achieved.

So we hope members understand: if the Commune did not establish rules, it could not help anyone over the long term. Strictly enforcing the covenant is a long-term responsibility to all members. Calling KangAi Commune a scam, or saying that it deliberately makes things difficult for members and deliberately refuses mutual aid, is unjustified. Every cent of aid at the Commune comes from the cost-sharing of other members, and we must be accountable for every cent.
