A Proposal to Designate December 12 as “Anti-Cancer Commune Mutual Aid Day”
December 12—12/12—read in Chinese sounds like “want love, want love” (yao ai yao ai).
I propose designating this day as “Anti-Cancer Commune Mutual Aid Day,” calling on everyone to do one good deed for others on that day without expecting anything in return, to embody our spirit of mutual aid and mutual love.
On this date in history there was also the “Double Twelve Incident” (the Xi'an Incident), which opened the way for cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party against the Japanese invasion and embodied the spirit of “harmony is precious”—consistent with our purpose of mutual aid and mutual love.
Do you all support this? Any better suggestions?
