The Problems Exposed by Huimin Insurance Show That No Single Approach Can Solve Every Protection Problem—Diversification Is the Way Out
Risk protection is itself an extremely complex system.
Recently, problems related to Huimin Insurance in many places have frequently appeared in the news. The emergence of various conflicts and shortcomings does not mean the product has failed; on the contrary, it is a normal part of industry development—complete smooth sailing would be contrary to objective law. Having worked in the critical-illness mutual aid industry for many years, we already knew when we started the KangAi Commune project more than a decade ago that this undertaking was no simple matter; it was only as we walked the road that we truly came to feel how much more complicated it was than expected, and that even after expending enormous effort, many difficulties still cannot be resolved overnight.
The reason the protection system is so hard to build comes down to four roots:
- Human nature is itself plural and complex, with needs and choices that differ from person to person;
- Individual circumstances vary enormously—age, health, family, and income differ widely;
- Domestic development is uneven between regions and between urban and rural areas, and China's reality objectively contains multiple disparities;
- The public generally has an inadequate understanding of risk protection, and awareness of enrolling in and claiming on protection has room to improve.
Looking around the world, very few countries have managed to polish a universal inclusive protection system to perfection, which is enough to confirm that livelihood protection is inherently a long-term, extremely difficult-to-balance systemic undertaking.
But from another angle, the endless real-world difficulties precisely confirm that social security needs cannot be fully covered by any single model. Since there is no unified scheme that can fit everyone and solve every problem, then multi-tiered, multi-path, diversified protection models developing in parallel is the only feasible way out in reality. This is also the underlying logic and the core value foundation on which the critical-illness mutual aid industry can stand and keep developing.
