Why Is KangAi Commune Launching KangAi Chou?

Zhang Mading2 min read

We are recruiting 10,000 co-founders for "KangAi Chou," and here we respond to the questions raised by enthusiastic members.

Question One: Since KangAi Commune already provides mutual aid, why launch "KangAi Chou" as well?

Mutual aid and charitable fundraising are not the same thing. Mutual aid is based on a balance of rights and obligations: only if you have helped others do you have the right to be helped; if you do not help others, you have no claim to assistance. Charitable crowdfunding, by contrast, rests on people's donations out of compassion, and participants receive nothing in return.

In reality, many people do not understand or trust mutual aid and are not members, so they cannot receive support. Some of these people may be genuinely poor: their awareness, income and technical skills leave them unable to use insurance or mutual aid to manage their own risks. They are our brothers and sisters too, and we must have the means to help them.

Question Two: There are already many charitable fundraising projects on the market, so why build "KangAi Chou"?

In short, we believe the charitable fundraising solutions on the market are imperfect, with two prominent problems.

The first problem: platforms have no incentive to vet the recipients. If a platform is commercial and chases traffic and revenue, then the larger its fundraising scale and the more participants it has, the better; it has no incentive to vet rigorously. As a result, many people who should not be raising funds appear on these platforms, and people's compassion is abused.

The second problem: the operators of donation platforms and the donors who actually put up the money have misaligned goals, so compassion is turned to improper profit. People come out of compassion and are the main contributors of funds, yet they cannot take part in the platform's decisions or share in its results.

KangAi Chou exists to solve these two problems. So we must do it in an entirely new way, and member co-ownership, co-governance and shared benefit is the governance goal KangAi Chou aims to achieve.
