Understanding the Complexity of the World: You Can't Take Things for Granted When Running a Commune
As the saying goes, "in a big forest there are all kinds of birds"—meaning society is very complex. Running mutual aid has driven this home to me deeply, for example:
— People who receive money are unwilling to provide a receipt;
— Families who don't apply for aid while the elderly person is alive, wanting to apply after the person dies even though the amount applied for will be smaller.
Many kind-hearted members have raised criticisms and suggestions, all in a good-hearted frame of mind, without seeing the other side of things or the complexity of society. As operators, we too are constantly overcoming our naive understanding of society and perfecting our systems to counter human weakness. In this process I hope everyone can think more comprehensively. Only by acknowledging the base side of human nature can we design systems that protect the good.
