Why Does KangAi Commune Apply the World's Strictest Risk-Control Measures?

Zhang Mading2 min read

KangAi Commune has never relaxed its risk control, and never has it done so in pursuit of growth speed or financing. These measures are very likely the strictest in the world (across the charitable, insurance and mutual aid sectors). Many members have criticized them, saying we have forgotten our original purpose and changed our founding spirit. Objectively, these measures have also restrained the Commune's rapid growth and weakened the support we receive from capital.

But I believe these measures show the Commune's sincerity in doing mutual aid well, its willingness to be responsible to members and to society, and its determination to strive for the goal of a Century Commune. Every measure was considered carefully; members may not understand for now, but they eventually will. And whether capital supports us or not has never been the reason we do or don't build KangAi Commune.

These strictest measures include:

— The waiting period for joining is at least one year for anything related to critical illness, and some themed mutual aid societies have waiting periods of three or even five years;

— A 3,000-yuan review fee (deposit) must be paid for review, raising the cost of fraud;

— In the great majority of cases, local members must visit the applicant in person to look into the matter;

— Third-party independent review, which the Commune cannot interfere with;

— Voluntarily closing registration and slowing growth during periods of rapid expansion;

— Consistently emphasizing and publicizing that mutual aid is not insurance;

and so on and so forth.

Mutual aid is a long-term undertaking; only time can prove quality. Strict as they are, these measures cannot claim to filter out all risk and fraud, but time will eventually prove that what we are doing is responsible. To exist over the long term—that is the pursuit and the value of KangAi Commune.

Stick to what we believe is right, and let the rest be just what it is.
