Several Key Issues for KangAi Commune in Achieving the 'Century Commune' Goal
KangAi Commune's goal is to be a Century Commune. It believes that only a sustainable existence is the greatest responsibility to members, and only long-term existence can demonstrate the Commune's value. Sustainability is the precondition for everything. We hope to reach a consensus with members and to adjust the focus of all our work to whether it benefits sustainability; sustainability is more important than any other issue.
Regarding the problems that may arise on the way to becoming a Century Commune, let me report our thinking to our members:
1. The Confidence and Resolve of the Current Team
This is the precondition for overcoming difficulties. On adhering to our original purpose, we are unshakable. To express our resolve, we have also made a promise to members: we would give up running the Commune only under two circumstances.
The Commune's core team is currently stable and unshakable in pushing the Commune forward. Over six years of operation, the Commune has gone through many difficulties, including a funding gap that lasted two years, and has overcome them all—this already shows our resolve.
2. How the Commune Will Be Run Once the Founder Is Gone
We thank several members for their attention to this issue recently. First, institutionalization; second, organization; and finally, depersonalization. In a number of years (tentatively within five), the Commune will reach a state in which it can run perfectly without depending on any individual. Of course, the choice of the Commune's head is important, and we will also establish rules and regulations for selecting that person. Mature companies and organizations offer much to learn from and refer to in this regard.
3. Funding
The Commune is making earnest but cautious efforts to seek external funding support. However, because we have always been weak in commercialization, we hold little appeal for capital; moreover, we have taken the initiative to reject overly utilitarian investment. So we need to be prepared to run the Commune over the long term without external funding support.
1. Explore ways to sustain operations through income;
2. Persist in low-cost operation.
4. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
We pay close attention to industry regulatory trends and cooperate proactively, innovate cautiously, and pursue compliance with the law.
5. Rules and Systems
Improper or unscientific rule design will cause problems to erupt in concentrated fashion later on. The industry has already shown some alarming signs, and we need to improve promptly. Refining the rules, systems, and processes is one of our central tasks. We must strike a balance between stability and growth speed.
6. Growth Speed
We realize that explosive growth will bring serious problems, and that improving the industry's supporting infrastructure also takes time. But the Commune's healthy development also requires maintaining a certain speed; this too requires balance—like riding a bicycle, too fast is dangerous, too slow and you fall over.
The issues above may each be weighted differently at different stages, and situations we cannot now anticipate may arise. But I think that as long as we adhere to our original purpose, have resolve, and maintain sincere communication with our members, all difficulties will eventually be overcome.
If there are other issues you think deserve key consideration besides those above, you are welcome to raise them in the comments. We will keep revising and refining this article to make it a guide for future work.
