Is Being Diagnosed with Cancer Shortly After Joining Speculation or Fraud?

Zhang Mading1 min read

On one hand, being diagnosed with cancer six months or a year after joining fits the pattern of cancer diagnosis in China: most people do not see a doctor for minor ailments, they are reluctant to talk about cancer, and by the time it is found it is already at a late stage—sometimes only a few short months pass between onset and death. Around me there was even a case of someone who had been perfectly healthy yet died three months after cancer was discovered. So one cannot assume that falling ill after 6 or 12 months must involve speculation or fraud.

On the other hand, among some aid recipients there certainly is speculative behavior—for example, joining only after experiencing some physical discomfort. As for fraud, we have uncovered some cases. We are now improving step by step—extending the waiting period, setting up a transition period, and strengthening review. This year we will make it a priority and carry out comprehensive improvements to reduce speculation and fraud as much as possible. But in the long run, speculation and fraud can never be completely eliminated.

At present the Commune has accumulated too few case samples to draw authoritative conclusions; doubts without data to support them do not hold up. We should continue to observe and keep optimizing and adjusting.
