Why Are Mutual Aid Platforms' Reviews Even Stricter Than Insurance Companies'?
Some members say mutual aid platforms are generally strict—anything slightly out of line gets rejected—whereas insurance companies sometimes make allowances. This problem is quite helpless for us too, and the root of it lies with you and me.
A mutual aid platform is only an information intermediary. Whether to deny or pay a claim is of little interest to the platform itself. The strictness comes from two sources:
1. Member oversight. Everything at the Commune has to be explained; the moment there is something against the covenant, members will question it—so much so that even some reasonable accommodations become impossible.
2. Complaints about contributions. Many people complain that contributions are high, which forces strict review.
For the platform, every restriction applies to everyone.
